Speaker test

Check the left and right speakers, stereo movement, sound clarity and bass of a laptop, phone or headphones. Every sound is generated in your browser, so nothing is downloaded or uploaded.

Before you start: set your device volume low, then raise it slowly until the tones are comfortable. This page never changes your system volume and never plays sound until you press a test.

Plays all 6 tests one by one, 4 seconds each (about 30 seconds).

The panels above light up when sound is actually leaving that channel.

How to test

  1. Sit about half a metre from the laptop and close any other apps that play sound.
  2. Make sure the device is not muted and no Bluetooth speaker or headphones are connected, unless you want to test those.
  3. Press one test and keep your eyes on the two panels. Left and right should light up only when you hear that side.
  4. Run the clarity test at a comfortable volume and again slightly louder. Buzzing that only appears at higher volume is worth noting.
  5. Press “Stop all sound” (or Esc) at any time.
What this test can and cannot tell you
  • What it checks. This page plays real left-only, right-only and both-channel sound, so you can hear whether each side works and whether the stereo image moves smoothly.
  • What it cannot do. A website cannot measure frequency response or give laboratory-grade audio results. It cannot detect hardware faults automatically either. Your ears are the test, and the lit panels show what the page is sending, not what your speakers produce.
  • A good result is not a guarantee. Passing these tests does not mean the speakers are perfect or will stay reliable.
  • Single or combined speakers. Some laptops have only one physical speaker, or mix left and right internally, so you may hear both tests from the same place. Check the laptop’s specifications.
  • Things that change left and right. Bluetooth devices, headphones, “mono audio” or balance settings, spatial-sound effects, audio drivers and the browser can all alter or merge channels. Turn off enhancements and mono audio before testing.
  • Bass. Most laptop speakers cannot reproduce much below 100 to 150 Hz, so the lowest notes may be quiet or silent. Compare with another laptop if you are unsure.
  • iPhone and iPad. Turn off silent mode, or Web Audio may stay quiet.
  • Browser limits. If no sound plays, tap a test again, check the tab is not muted, and try another browser.

Buying a used laptop? Run the left, right and clarity tests at a normal listening volume. Walk away if one side is silent, or if you hear crackling, rattling or buzzing that was not in the seller’s description.

Sound Test Online – Test Your Laptop Speakers

Use our free Sound Test Online tool to check whether your laptop, desktop, or connected speakers are working properly. Test the left speaker, right speaker, and both speakers together using continuous audio. This simple online speaker test helps you identify missing audio channels and common sound output problems.

How to Test Your Speakers Online

  1. Select Left Speaker to test the left audio channel.

  2. Select Right Speaker to test the right audio channel.

  3. Select Both Speakers to play sound through both channels simultaneously.

  4. Listen carefully to identify which speaker produces sound.

  5. Adjust the test volume if necessary.

  6. Click Stop Sound to stop playback.

Left Speaker Test

Use the left speaker test to check whether audio is coming from the left channel. If you cannot hear the sound, check your speaker connection, audio balance settings, and device configuration.

Right Speaker Test

The right speaker test sends audio to the right channel. Listen carefully to confirm that the right speaker produces sound independently of the left speaker.

Both Speakers Test

Use the both-speakers test to play audio through the left and right channels together. This helps you check stereo output and determine whether both speaker channels are working.

Continuous Sound Test

Our online sound test plays a continuous test tone until you select another test or click Stop Sound. This allows you to listen for longer and check whether the sound is stable.

Start with a low volume and increase it gradually to a comfortable level.

Why Is My Laptop Speaker Not Working?

If one or both speakers do not produce sound, try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Check the system volume and make sure your device is not muted.

  • Disconnect headphones or external audio devices.

  • Check the left-right audio balance in your operating system.

  • Select the correct output device in sound settings.

  • Update or reinstall the audio driver if necessary.

  • Restart your computer and test the speakers again.

If the problem continues, the cause may be a driver issue, audio configuration problem, damaged speaker, or hardware fault.

Is This Online Speaker Test Free?

Yes. This speaker test is free to use in a compatible browser. No additional software installation is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I test my laptop speakers online?

Open the Sound Test Online tool, select a speaker test, and listen to the audio output. Test the left and right channels separately, then test both together.

How can I check left and right speakers separately?

Choose Left Speaker to test the left audio channel, then choose Right Speaker to test the right audio channel. Your device must support stereo audio output for separate channel testing.

Why is only one speaker working?

The issue may be caused by incorrect audio balance settings, a connection problem, a faulty speaker, or an audio driver issue. Check the settings before assuming the speaker is damaged.

Can I test both speakers at the same time?

Yes. Select Both Speakers to play the test tone through both audio channels simultaneously.

Does the sound test work with headphones?

Yes. You can use compatible stereo headphones or earphones to check the left and right audio channels.

Does this tool require installation?

No. The test runs directly in your browser using built-in web audio features.

Why can I hear sound from the wrong side?

Your speakers may be positioned differently, the channels may be reversed, or your operating system may have changed the audio routing. Check your device configuration and try again.
